Te Rua Makerspace: 3D Printers

We have 5x Ultimaker S3 machines.

The printers are loaded with a variety of PLA filament colours.

The printers cannot be booked or reserved and are strictly 'first come, first served' usage.

Introduction to 3D printing

3D printing is a really cool way of making. Professionally, it is being widely used as a way of manufacturing and prototyping objects, and the technology continues to develop and improve.

3D printing does take time for an object to print, depending on the size and complexity of the model (a minimum of 30 minutes for a small object). Once the printing is finished, there is typically some cleaning up to do (removing of the excess material). But seeing your design emerge is a fun and satisfying experience.

The best way to develop your skills in 3D printing, especially if you are a newcomer to the medium, is to attend some of our workshops in Te Rua and or book in a session with one of our skilled staff members. A good first step, however, is to get acquainted with some of the processes by checking out the handy videos below.

Please note:

  • The quiz will cover information shown in the induction video so make sure you watch properly.
  • If you are unable to attend the specific induction times available, either make an appointment with Te Rua staff or email to organise another time.
