Get a handle on your data

Data Carpentry is a modular course over two days (or four half days spread over whatever time works for you) designed to get researchers comfortable with using discipline specific data. Though it uses a number of tools, the main focus is on the data management pipeline: gathering, handling, visualizing and publishing. It is a companion to the Software Carpentry workshop program, and modules from that can be added as well.

2024 Carpentry Courses

Software Carpentry is a programme of courses for the absolute novice to get acquainted with computational topics in academic research. We offer a range of sessions in:

Programming (using R or Python)
Version Control (using git)
Data Handling and Cleaning
Relational Data (using SQL)

You may want to book for a series of courses to get an idea of what tools are available. All the courses will include help with local UC computing resources and support.

The Carpentries

This workshop uses modules taken from the Carpentries; a community effort that develops and teaches workshops on the fundamental data skills needed to conduct research. Their mission is to provide researchers high-quality, domain-specific training covering the full lifecycle of data-driven research.
