Environmental Science | Mātai Pūtaiao Aronukurangi: ENVR101 Briefing Note Assignment

Below are listed some possible sources to cite in your briefing note assignment. The two books listed first have multiple chapters that might be used for both assignment options. The plastic to diesel journal articles are listed first followed by the burning plastics for energy journal articles. You will also need to search for a wide range of sources yourself, making sure that have plenty of 'peer reviewed' journal articles as well as other types of sources. What 'peer reviewed journal articles' and other types of source are, was covered in the ENVR101 library tutorial, which was recorded if you weren't able to attend or want to refresh you memory. There is also information about doing APA referencing and how to get help from the Library and/or the Academic Skills Centre. You can download EndNote software from our EndNote guide if you want to use it for referencing. You're Environmental Science Subject Librarian is Nick Scullin. You can book appointments with him at the EPS Library or on Zoom, or email him questions. See the 'Make appointment' button below or click Nick Scullin for other contact details.

Where to Search for Sources (these are links):

  • Scopus (Good for high quality, peer reviewed, journal articles especially, as well as other types of published sources)
  • Keenious (Uses a non-generative AI to search for journal articles and has an add-on for Microsoft Word or Google Docs)
  • Google Scholar (Very broad search, will find a lot articles as well as other sources including some grey literature (check this Guide to Using Grey Literature))
  • MultiSearch (Finds journal articles (toggle 'Peer Reviewed') AND books/ebooks (don't toggle 'Peer Reviewed' to include books in the results))
  • Google/other general search engines (best way to search for grey literature to cite such as websites or reports (check this Guide to Using Grey Literature)

Books

These two books have multiple chapters that could be useful for both waste to diesel and burning waste for energy.

Al-Salem, S. M. (Ed.). (2019). Plastics to energy: Fuel, chemicals, and sustainability implications. William Andrew Publishing. https://doi.org/10.1016/C2016-0-04293-6

Letcher, T. M. (Ed.). (2020). Plastic waste and recycling: Environmental impact, societal issues, prevention, and solutions. Academic Press. https://doi.org/10.1016/C2018-0-01939-8

NOTE: You need to reference the chapters as 'chapters in an edited book' meaning each chapter is a separate reference in your reference list. This is because the individual chapters have different authors. You have to reference the chapter authors and title of the chapter as well as the book editor and book title and other information. Also note that sometimes the editor is also the author of the chapter. See our APA help page for referencing edited book chapters or ask Nick for help.
