Architectural Drawings: Home

The Macmillan Brown Library holds material relating to the history of architecture and building construction in Aotearoa, specifically about 130 000 architectural drawings. The drawing collection consists of many works from major architectural firms in the Canterbury region covering more than a century. Almost all of the architectural drawings are catalogued and can be searched via the database, Kā Kohika.

Specifications also accompany many of the sets of drawings. These are an extremely valuable documentary source, particularly where finishes and building innovations are described and where brand names are specified.

Some of the collections are restricted and require the permission of the architect before you can view or copy from them, therefore they cannot be requested online. Contact the Macmillan Brown Library and we will facilitate access for you.

The Macmillan Brown Library also holds a number of secondary source publications on architecture, These are searchable in the Library catalogue and a list can be found under the "Other Resources" tab
