Publications collected for their artistic merit, and generally includes works produced from the 1870s onwards. It includes representative examples from most well-known private European presses and fine printing from commercial presses and artist’s books. Future collecting will focus on works in high demand for UC teaching, which are those relating to contemporary art, material culture, the arts and crafts movement and limited edition works from local private presses such as Ilam Press and Kowhai Press.
You can search the Modern Fine Print collection, which includes the Artists' Books held at Macmillan Brown by clicking on the Advanced Search option in the Library Catalogue. Then set the Location to Macmillan Brown Library, and the Other Limits to Modern Fine Print.
Artists' Books are located in the general collections of the Macmillan Brown and Central Library. Within the Special Collections at Macmillan Brown the collecting focus is firstly material created at UC and the wider Canterbury area. Items from New Zealand and from overseas will also be considered for purchase.
