"Review and Refine" is an iterative process whereby search results can be finessed to improve the comprehensiveness of results without increasing the number of irrelevant hits.

The process is circular, and can be continued until results are satisfactory

  1. Search using keywords you already have
  2. Identify relevant records, and check record details
  3. Note words used, especially in article titles, abstracts and subject terms
  4. Amend search statement to incorporate new keywords terms found
    • Continue, if necessary, with step 2 above

As a variation on this process, particular types of terms may be identified, and searching may be restricted to the appropriate search option, for example:

  • Authors writing in the field > use author name in author search option
  • Subject terms or descriptors > use subject terms in subject search option
